Douglas Wilkerson is a Jacksonville Beach–based mortgage broker, branch manager, Marine Corps veteran, and founder of Freeman Douglas Corporation and Veteran Legacy. Through his mortgage practice, he helps veterans, military families, first-time homebuyers, experienced homeowners, and real estate investors navigate financing decisions with greater knowledge, confidence, and negotiating leverage.
Military Education and Veteran Advocacy
Douglas participates in veteran education and transition-assistance programs alongside the Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs, including classes at Naval Station Mayport, NAS Jacksonville, Cecil Field, and off-site state veteran events.
His work focuses on helping transitioning servicemembers, veterans, and military families understand their homeownership opportunities, evaluate VA loan benefits, and make informed financial decisions as they prepare for civilian life or relocate.

Douglas holds a business degree in Project Management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University School of Business. His business education and experience informs his approach to organizing complex initiatives, coordinating stakeholders, and managing projects with multiple operational requirements.
He applies that experience to community development and large-scale events, including the Veteran Legacy Community Festival, which brings together veteran organizations, nonprofit partners, military families, community leaders, and local businesses.
Mortgage Strategy and Homeownership
Douglas approaches mortgage lending as more than securing a loan approval. His objective is to help clients understand the financial structure of a real estate transaction and recognize the options available to them before making consequential decisions.
His work includes VA, FHA, conventional, HELOC, refinance, construction, jumbo, and investment-property financing.
A central principle of his practice is that borrowers should understand the leverage available to an experienced mortgage professional.
By teaching clients how financing terms, seller contributions, closing costs, loan structure, and transaction timing affect their negotiating position, Douglas seeks to transfer that knowledge to the borrower—so they can make more informed decisions and negotiate with greater confidence.
